Direct flights between Mozambique and Rwanda start next month

Voos directos entre Moçambique e Ruanda iniciam próximo mês

The direct air link between the capitals of Mozambique, Maputo, and Rwanda, Kigali, will start next month, August, said on Saturday the Rwandan High Commissioner in Mozambique, Claude Nikobisanzwe.

"Our airline will start direct flights from Maputo to Kigali, which will boost the movement of people and goods and stimulate trade. In principle, it will be in the first week of August," he said.

For the responsible, the air connection between the nations, which on the Rwandan side will be operated by RwandAir, will allow the increase in business volume, even more so because the parties have recently strengthened relations in the political and commercial fields.

Rwanda has an interest in seeing the visa process simplified for its citizens to enter Mozambique, especially since Mozambicans can enter Rwanda without a visa.

"We are in discussions with our counterpart to see if we can't have the same facilities for the Rwandans," he revealed.

A delegation of 120 Rwandan businessmen recently participated in the Mozambique-Rwanda Business Forum to take advantage of investment opportunities in the country.

Mozambique currently exports sugar, minerals and other mining products to Rwanda, but both parties want to see an increase in exports.

"We believe that the port of Nacala, with its deep waters, can help in this cooperation," he pointed out.
