The vice-president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Fernando Mazanga, has criminally prosecuted Daud Ibramogy for death threats.
The threat was allegedly made during the 31st extraordinary plenary session on November 9, reports the Electoral Bulletin of the Center for Public Integrity. It was a session to approve the chairmen of the district election commissions.
The complaint was filed on Tuesday (14), and Mazanga is due to make it official today at the Criminal Department of the Attorney General's Office.
The document states that there are witnesses who witnessed an exchange of words between Mazanga and Ibramogy.
At that session, among others, Ibramogy accused Mazanga of undermining him and causing him to leave the mosque. In his view, Mazanga's pronouncements following the announcement of the results of the local elections on October 11, 2023, led to his downfall at the Airport mosque. Speaking to the press on October 26, Mazanga said that there were CNE members from civil society who were behind the Frelimo party.
"This gentleman has damaged my life. You're going to die. If I had my gun, I'd shoot you....but even so, it won't end like this. I'll come to your house and kill you, you old drunk", said Ibramogy "in the heat of the debate".
After the scene, CIP writes: "the same day, Daud Abramogy would have repented, but instead of calling Mazanga to apologize, he contacted Bishop Carlos Matsinhe, president of the CNE, to do so on his behalf. Matsinhe suggested a meeting between Mazanga and Daud, mediated by him, where Daud would apologize. The meeting was scheduled for Monday, November 13, but Daud Abramogy didn't show up until 3pm. When contacted, he claimed he was in a traffic jam".
On the other hand, Daud Ibramogy says that he is also suffering death threats from Renamo members, and claims not to know about the existence of a criminal case against him initiated by Mazanga.
