The Renamo party leader in Maputo city, Venâncio Mondlane, today gave an ultimatum to Renamo's top leadership to choose between the side of electoral truth or the Constitutional Council (CC).

The CC ruling that presents the final results of the local elections of October 11, 2023 gives victory to the Frelimo party in the Maputo municipality. Venâncio Mondlane disputes the results.

Reacting to the CC's announcement, the Renamo MP suspects that Renamo's top leadership has abandoned the fight to restore electoral truth in exchange for a deal.

"There are people from the party who were with us in the campaign and who have responsibilities in this party and are not here with the people. It seems that they already knew this result," said Mondlane in front of some party members and sympathizers at the Renamo office in Maputo City. "Maybe they're there toasting with the others."

"I hope that the Renamo party, in the highest leadership of the Renamo party, knows how to respect the will of the people and on which side it should stand: on the side of the constitutional council with its lies and falsehoods, or on the side of the people with the truth," he said, stressing that this will depend on the decision that the party will take.

He announced that the Renamo party will meet today to evaluate the results presented by the CC.

"At that meeting, to which I've been invited, I'll pass on the same message I'm leaving here," he said, noting that the will of the people is non-negotiable.

"You can't do business with the will of the people. It's God's noble will," he said, and criticized the fact that the party had issued an order for members and sympathizers not to gather during the announcement of the results by the CC. "I don't want to set myself up as a rebel for my party leadership and direction. But I expect guidance from the truth."
