The independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, recently expressed his acceptance of the proposal made by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, for a meeting with other presidential candidates.
Nyusi proposes meeting with presidential candidates to discuss the country's situation
"I unreservedly accept this dialog table. But this dialog, like any negotiation, must have an agenda," he said during a live broadcast from an uncertain location.
Another condition for the meeting is that it takes place behind open doors, i.e. with access for the media, civil society and other interested parties.
Meeting with presidential candidates could take place next week, according to Nyusi
According to Mondlane, he has received 40,000 emails from Mozambican citizens proposing how to proceed with the next stages of the strike, but also what issues to bring to the table.
In this regard, he said, a little over 20 proposals have already been compiled for the meeting between the candidates and the President of the Republic.
Mondlane promised to submit a letter to Filipe Nyusi's office tomorrow with these proposals. He assured that once the receipt has been acknowledged, it will be shared with Mozambicans and the international community. "So that everything is transparent".
"We don't want dialogues where the people don't have the right to say a single word. Often the dialogues don't represent the true feelings of the people. Others even take place and the people don't know because they are behind closed doors," he said.
