European Union and Germany launch "Train to Employ" initiative to empower young people

União Europeia e Alemanha lançam a iniciativa “Capacitar para Empregar” com vista a habilitar jovens

Yesterday, June 19, in Maputo City, the official signing of the Multi-Donor Action "Capacitar para Empregar" took place, an action that marks a decisive step towards strengthening employment prospects for young Mozambicans.

The signing ceremony, which was attended by EU Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen and the German Ambassador to Mozambique, Ronald Münch, representatives of the European Union (EU) Member States in Mozambique and the Government of Mozambique, represents a joint commitment to sustainable development and economic empowerment in Mozambique.

The activities of the "Train to Employ" initiative will focus on strengthening Vocational Education, aligning training programs with market needs, and fostering an environment conducive to the development of start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

This integrated approach aims to stimulate employment, especially among young Mozambicans, with a strong emphasis on sectors that are essential for the advancement of green initiatives. "Capacitar para Empregar", with a substantial budget of 9.35 million euros, is co-financed by the EU and the Federal Government of Germany, and will be implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Agency for International Cooperation - GIZ).

The action is part of the Team Europe e-Youth initiative and contributes to the Team Europe Green Deal initiative in Mozambique, with the aim of empowering young people to lead Mozambique's socio-economic and green transformation. Around 80% of Mozambicans are under 35 years old. The program will be relevant in a context where Mozambique faces the challenge of integrating this young population into the labor market.
