The European Union (EU) announced this Tuesday financial support of more than three million euros for the promotion of urban development projects in the city of Beira, in the center of the country.
"It is a great satisfaction to see the results of our efforts being implemented at the local and community level and producing visible results," the EU ambassador to Mozambique, António Sánchez-Benedito Gaspar, told Lusa.
Gaspar was speaking after the launch of the "Mudar" program, an initiative aimed at promoting integrated urban development and local governance in the city of Beira, the capital of Sofala province.
The program aims to improve the lives of many communities in the municipality, he added.
The EU ambassador in Mozambique advanced that the project foresees integrated, participative and sustainable urban planning and job creation initiatives, through public and private partnerships.
The mayor of Beira, Albano Carige, said that the project will fulfill "the dream of making the city environmentally friendly and garbage free."
"The residents should be aware that the garbage they produce has other uses. The change that is said here in the project is not to change houses, but to transform problems into solutions," Carige emphasized.
