The Maputo City Judicial Court (TJCM), through the Criminal Investigation Section (SIC), has urgently requested the details and blocking of the accounts held by the independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, if they exist.
In addition to the urgent nature of the "Request for Information in Criminal Proceedings" of November 13, 2024, which was reportedly submitted to the legal department of a financial services institution in the country, the TJCM notes that the case has defendants deprived of their liberty and that it is at risk of being statute-barred.
The TJCM document circulating on social media, even shared by the candidate himself, requests detailed identification of the accounts held by Venâncio Mondlane; identification of possible co-holders or signatories of these accounts; statements from January 1, 2024 to November 8; copies of proof of transactions made; transactions made or received from abroad; whether the holder is on the blacklist of users of bad checks; details of the bank account including all associated cards; the existence of valuables kept in a safe; whether he has any financial investments and the blocking of these accounts.
On one of his social networks, where he shared the document, Venâncio Mondlane reacted by writing: my people, I have nothing to hide, this is our country and we will not back down because of intimidation, we will go all the way.
For the presidential candidate, this onslaught by the TJCM is an "offensive advance towards the unjust and illegal freezing" of his accounts. And he wonders what charges are leading to the investigation of his accounts.
In the same publication, he questioned whether "the fat accounts of state leaders and their children where there is proof and evidence have already been investigated".
