Court orders sale of Tmcel property at public auction

Tribunal ordena venda de imóveis da Tmcel em hasta pública

The 13th Section of the Judicial Court of Maputo City ordered on Tuesday (17), the sale of five properties of the telecommunications company Moçambique Telecom (Tmcel) due to a debt of the company with the car rental company Moçambique Car Rent.

The communications company may lose three properties in the city of Inhambane, one in the city of Maputo and another in Manica.

"cAs a legal and unavoidable formality, the court ordered the summoning of Tmcel's creditors who have on the pledged properties some real guarantee; on said properties there is no creditor who has a real guarantee, that is, other than Mozambique Rental Car itself," Tmcel said in response to a request for comment on the matter made by a portal.

Tmcel is waiting for some companies that are in debt for the use of its services to pay a debt of 929 million meticais. However, without money to honor its financial commitments, it was forced to "deliver" the properties to its creditor.

Last year the mobile operator Vodacom expressed its intention to interrupt communications with Tmcel, due to the company's debt of 600 million Meticais.

As a consequence, TMCEL customers could not make voice calls to Vodacom customers.
