Tesla, Berkshire Hathaway and Meta stay out of S&P's ESG index

Tesla, Berkshire Hathaway e Meta ficam de fora do índice ESG da S&P

Tesla has been removed from S&P ESG, the world's most prominent index of companies related to environmental and social criteria by Standard & Poor's.

"Although Tesla is playing an [important role in ESG] by contributing to getting electric vehicles off the road, it lags behind when compared to its peers when it comes to ESG," explained Margaret Dorjn, S&P's director for the ESG index, in a blog post on the project.

Quoted by the newspaper Negócios, the US agency justifies this departure with reasons linked to poor human resources management, specifically "concerns related to working conditions."

The removal of Elon Musk's company was further prompted by the way the company manipulated a US government investigation into the deaths and injuries associated with accidents caused by autopilot in the brand's vehicles."

An S&P analysis identified "two events related to racial discrimination and poor working conditions at the Fremont, USA plant."

In addition to Tesla, other big names in the US market like Berkshire Hathaway, Johnson & Johnson and Meta are outside this chart. Shares of the automaker continue to react downward to this removal, being down more than 4%, accompanied by Meta which tumbles 3.6%. Johnson & Johnson skids 0.36% and Berkshire Hathaway falls 1.85%.
