The Portuguese airline (TAP) is the safest company in Europe and is in the TOP 10 worldwide. The classification is given by the AirlineRatings website, this January.
"This distinction honors us greatly. We will continue to relentlessly position safety as a top priority," says TAP CEO Christine Ourmières-Widener.
According to AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas, TAP Air Portugal has an excellent safety record and this is not surprising, as it has kept its fleet young and has always sought out the best aircraft and was an early adopter of major advances in safety.
"Its incident record over the past two years has been one of the best and the airline has not suffered a fatality in the modern era," notes the editor of AirlineRatings.
"TAP Portugal has become a reference in aviation security and its COVID protocols are industry leading," he adds.
Gonçalo Nápoles, TAP's Safety Manager, highlights the high commitment over several years of all employees that made it possible to achieve this recognition.
He emphasizes that this distinction "represents the level of commitment to safety over the years, the operational excellence achieved through everyone's work, and is proof that risk management work can be done in line with the company's strategy and transformation needs.
Launched in 2013, AirlineRatings evaluates the safety and product standards of more than 400 airlines using a star system, which it assigns according to fleet age, accident history, and with safety parameters set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
