Switzerland disburses 10 M$ for inclusive development in Northern Mozambique

Switzerland will disburse 10 million dollars for an inclusive development project in the provinces of Nampula and Niassain northern Mozambique, an official statement said.

"This initiative, which is in line with the priorities of the Government of Mozambique, combines local decentralization, with climate change adaptation and financing, as well as increasing local accountability," said Laila Sheikh, deputy head of the Swiss Mission in Mozambique, quoted in the statement.

The amount will be made available to local governments (municipalities and districts), which should apply it to strategies and initiatives that increase the levels of participation of women, men, and youth in local governance processes.

"The effectiveness and sustainability of the project will be guaranteed by the broad interaction, coordination and synergies between the actors and institutions at the various levels of governance, who work daily to improve the living conditions of citizens in Nampula and Niassa provinces," stated Laila Sheikh.

In addition to Switzerland, which will finance the project, the initiative has the support of the German Cooperation in Mozambique, the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), among others.
