The Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, has begun allocating voting material to the districts, as part of the presidential, legislative and provincial assembly elections, scheduled for October 9 this year.
In a NewsThe provincial director of STAE in Cabo Delgado, Cassamo Camal, said that the first material to be allocated are ballot boxes and booths, guaranteeing that the main kits containing ballot books and ballot papers will be at the polling stations the day before the elections.
"With the exception of towns like Pemba, Montepuez and the village of Chiúre, the material will be allocated in the early hours of the same voting day. At the moment the provincial STAE is receiving the main material, packing it and cataloging it in suitcases. So everything is being taken care of down to the last detail so that nothing is missed," said Camal.
The source said that due to the insecurity situation in some districts, STAE will use air and boat resources to distribute voting materials and assign polling station staff.
"I'm referring to the coastal districts such as Mocimboa da Praia, Palma, Quissanga, Macomia and Ibo. We have reports of explosive devices being planted on some roads. We don't want the MMV and the voting material itself to be at risk," he added.
