Angolan company Sonangol and Italian ENI's gas exploration project in Mozambique were two of the winners of the awards presented at the African Energy Week, being held in Cape Town.
"National oil companies continue to play a key role in reducing energy poverty while ensuring favorable environments for investment, energy security and leadership within the hydrocarbon sector, reads the press release quoted by Lusa, in which it is announced that Sonangol won the award for "National Oil Company of the Year"
"This award serves to honor national oil companies that have made tremendous efforts to electrify their region through innovative operational and revenue management strategies," the statement further pointed out.
In addition to Sonangol, within Lusophone Africa, the Italian ENI's gas exploration project in Mozambique also received an award.
The South Coral project won the Africa Gas Monetization of the Year award, which "recognizes companies and projects that are defying Covid-19 odds and industry constraints by promoting gas monetization in Africa to bridge the energy poverty gap and lead the continent's energy transition."
At the African Energy Week, organized in Cape Town by the African Energy Chamber, the 'Life Prize' award was given to former US Under Secretary for Energy Resources Frank Fannon, the Secretary General of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries, Yuri Sentyurin and Timipre Sylva, "for the courageous steps they have taken to promote the welfare of African citizens and improve the functioning and profitability of the energy and hydrocarbon markets."
