Seven companies resume cashew nut processing

A year after the stoppage, due to the problem of access to raw material, this year, the cashew nut processing activities of the seven companies, in Nampula province, will resume.

The president of the Association of Cashew Industrialists (AICAJU), Yunusso Gafar, explained that this is due to the intervention of commercial banks.

"This result is not just from the industries; it is from a working class where our government has the responsibility and interest to give some comfort in a positive way," the president mentioned.

One of the problems is the lack of raw material and what you have had a chance to follow, one of the banks to give money to buy chestnuts, only wants chestnuts as collateral. "So you are running a lot of doors that will prosper the sector in the coming times," he said.

Note that in global terms Mozambique produces about 140,000 tons of cashew nuts, and the province of Nampula is the largest contributor, with about 50% of the country's total production.

With the reopening of these seven factories, Mozambique now has 16 cashew nut processing factories.
