Security guards take INAS staff and delegate hostage in Gaza and demand unpaid salaries

Seguranças fazem refém funcionários e delegado do INAS em Gaza e exigem salários em atrasos

Yesterday, a group of 34 private security agents demonstrated in front of the provincial office of the National Institute of Social Action (INAS) in Xai-Xai to demand payment of two years' salary arrears, taking the employees and the institution's delegate hostage.

According to a publication in the newspaper "The Country"The private security agents of two companies contracted by the INAS Provincial Delegation have completely paralyzed the institution's activities in Xai-Xai to demand the payment of two years' salary arrears.

The agents are demanding payment of the 24-month arrears within 48 hours.

"Since 2022, the Provincial Delegation of the National Institute for Social Action has not paid our salaries. Since then we've been facing power and water cuts in our homes. We're totally fed up with the situation, we've tried numerous times to talk to them, but we've seen no results. Today we demand that they pay us our money, that's all," said one of the representatives of the striking security agents.

The situation prevailed until around 3pm.

"For today, we've decided to lock the doors and keep everyone inside the institution until we get the green light. We only leave here with money in our hands, otherwise no one goes in or out, everything is closed," explained another striker.

For his part, the INAS Delegate in Gaza, Enoque Mate, acknowledged the demands of the security agents and said that his "hands are tied for lack of money". Mate also said that the payment processes are ready, but are waiting for the "green light" from the central government.
