The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) suspended, last Wednesday, a tourist resort located on the beach of Ponta d'Ouro, Maputo province, due to acts of racism, carried out by its owner.
INAE's decision comes after the triggering of a case depicting racial attitudes of a white businessman against two couples of black people staying at the businessman's property.
An audio and video posted on social networks indicated that the insolence of the owner of the guesthouse was extreme and abusive. In fact, as the audio we had access to states, the owner of the house "does and undoes in Ponta d'Ouro" because he has protection from the commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in that area.
In the audio, the wife of one of the gentlemen who paid to be in the house for 24 hours explains that the police officers recognized the injustice the couples were going through, but that there was nothing more they could do, since the businessman has a "hot back."
This "hot back" reportedly had the two men who were fighting for their rights arrested without even hearing them out. The businessman went on with his life....
All this led INAE to take steps that culminated with the suspension of the resort. The owner reportedly fled the site when he realized the presence of the authorities.
What about the commander?
