Kenya introduces the first locally made electric car

Opibus, a Swedish-Kenyan company specializing in "green" mobility, has just launched its first locally designed electric bus.

The design of this model aims to achieve a gradual shift to a more "green" mobility, particularly at the level of public transport, and gradually reduce the import of second-hand buses. Advances the African Markets, citing a statement from the company.

The bus will cost significantly less than importing other electric cars.

"This is the first major step in the company's vision to deliver a locally designed and developed electric bus that can be mass produced for the Pan-African market by the end of 2023," the Opibus statement said. A further advantage is that the model allows up to 80% reduction in maintenance costs compared to a diesel bus.

Opibus was founded in 2017, the company began converting motorcycles and classic vehicles into mobile electric units. In November last year, it announced that it had raised $7.5 million on the financial market and that it intended to extend its activities to several countries on the continent.
