The independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, said this week that the post-election protests could continue for another two or three months.
Cited by BBCMondlane explained that the demonstrations are the only way to put pressure on the Frelimo party to negotiate.
The candidate supported by the Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos) believes that "the combination of diplomatic contact, protests and international pressure will solve the problem".
In his view, Frelimo is already feeling the popular pressure for a paradigm shift in the lives of the Mozambican people.
"Frelimo knows that if these protests continue, there is a huge risk that the country will become unviable," he said.
Now in an uncertain part of the world, after passing through South Africa a few days after the murders of Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe, Mondlane regretted his inability to take part in the protests. It is a necessary measure to safeguard his life, he noted.
"What hurts me most is not being able to be with the people on the streets, taking part in the struggle and the protests, leading these demonstrations. It hurts me every day," he said.
