Mphanda Nkwa Project could be ready by 2030

The Mphanda Nkwua project in Tete province may be ready by 2030, according to projections presented on Tuesday by government spokesman Filimão Suázi, at the end of the twenty-fifth ordinary session of the Council of Ministers.

"We can share information that this is a dam 61 kilometers downstream of Cahora Bassa. It's a hydroelectric plant of up to 1,500 megawatts, it's going to have a Tete/Maputo transmission line of about 1,600 kilometers, an estimated cost of $4.5 to $5 billion, and a construction period of between five to six years. There is an expectation that around 2030 we will have the effective start of the project, not in terms of construction, but the construction already finished for the beginning of the activities," he said.

According to Filimão Suázi in Tuesday's session the executive appreciated information on the development of projections for storage infrastructure and management of water resources.

The decree approving the action plan for technical and professional education also merited consideration in the twenty-fifth ordinary session of the Council of Ministers.
