Agricultural project in Chókwè promises to revolutionize the local economy

Projecto agrícola em Chókwè promete revolucionar economia local

In the Chókwè district, Gaza province, southern Mozambique, an innovative agricultural project is revolutionizing the local economy by producing rice seeds.

With major milestones achieved since 2015, including the processing of 800 tons of rice seeds in 2021, the project led by Mozambican Hélder Chilengue not only feeds the population, but also creates jobs, promotes gender equality and boosts economic development in the region.

This is a project that buys rice directly from 250 women in Chókwè, providing a stable source of income for several families.

The enterprise also recognizes the fundamental role of women as leaders and agents of change in their communities.

Hélder Chilengue said that "agriculture is not just an economic activity, it is a fundamental pillar for Mozambique's sustainable growth".

"By investing in agriculture and empowering rural communities, we are building a more prosperous and equitable future for all Mozambicans," he said.

This effort not only strengthens the local economy, but also promotes gender equality and improves the living conditions of the families involved.

What's more, with around 10 people currently employed on the project and the potential to expand even further, the players involved want to demonstrate the effectiveness of the venture, but also their commitment to facing challenges and overcoming them.

At a time when Chókwè is seeking to regain its status as the "Barn of the Nation", this project comes as a ray of hope, showing that the future of agriculture and the country's economic development is in the hands of those who are willing to work hard and face the challenges of the future.
