The new Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, said this Friday in Maputo that he intends to ensure "financial independence" by strengthening production and containing spending.
Speaking to journalists after the investiture ceremony, Maleiane explained that the problems stem from spending more than we have.
For him, the increase in exports is among the most adequate solutions to improve the national economy, and this is dependent on the increase in production.
"When we produce, we can collect more taxes. Today our revenues already cover about 75% or 77% [of needs]. We have to move towards a situation where we can at least get revenues for what we are building," he said.
The former Finance Minister said that negotiations with the International Monetary Fund for a new financing program are already at a very advanced stage.
"Right now we are in the phase of quantifying the goals and discussing the structural measures that will be in the program," said Maleina, clarifying that f a new program could improve Mozambique's image in the international financial market.
Besides Adriano Maleiane, six other governors took office, with emphasis on the new ministers of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, and of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, as part of the reshuffle announced this week by the Mozambican head of state.
