Prime Minister challenges FUNAE's new PCA to speed up rural electrification

Primeiro-ministro desafia nova PCA do FUNAE para acelerar a electrificação rural

The Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, on Wednesday (06) challenged the new President of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the National Energy Fund (FUNAE), Isália Dimene, to speed up the connection of electricity to the population living in areas not yet covered by the National Electricity Network (REN), by 2030.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Maputo, Maleiane highlighted Mozambique's enormous energy potential, which provides the conditions for accelerating and consolidating the national electrification process, as well as making the country one of the main suppliers of clean energy to the southern region.

"Our commitment is to bring more and more energy to Mozambicans in order to achieve the goal of universal access to energy by 2030. To this end, renewable energies are important for achieving this goal," said the government official, quoted by AIMHe stressed that electrification based on isolated systems, outside the REN, are and will continue to be fundamental to doubling the national energy generation capacity and, above all, reaching citizens in areas far from the grid.

In addition, the prime minister instructed FUNAE's new PCA to meet the targets for including new and renewable energies in the country's electrification, as called for in the government's Five-Year Programme 2020-2024; to focus on achieving the electrification targets for the headquarters of administrative posts, as well as mobilizing funding for projects leading to the target of universal access to energy by 2030.

For her part, Isalia Dimene assured that she was aware of the commitment because the team had been formed.
