National Basketball President resigns due to administrative 'sabotage'. "There wasn't even water money"

Presidente do Basquete Nacional demite-se devido ‘sabotagem’ administrativa. “Nem havia dinheiro de água”

The Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) called a press conference on Thursday (10) where the President of the house announced his self-dissmissal due to accumulated issues of mismanagement.

The final straw, according to Rosque Silva Sebastião, came during the women's national team's last participation in the African Championship of the sport (Afrobasket 2023) in Rwanda.

He implied that the issues of mismanagement that have been going on for several years do not depend on him, and that he chose the decision to save his physical and mental sanity.

"I've been having health problems. During the qualifiers in Zimbabwe in February, I had some health problems. So as not to continue having these health problems, which are already worrying my family, I am making my position available. It's for the good of the sport, the sport and my health," he said.

This announcement takes place five months before the end of his term. On the other hand, the timetable points to the choice of new governing bodies for the FMB.

In Rwanda, the national team came fifth. The atmosphere in the locker room was one of dissatisfaction. And, according to Notícias, there wasn't even enough money to buy water and fruit during training sessions, let alone a stipend for the coaching staff.

The outgoing president said that, in this particular case, the State Secretariat for Sport (SED) and the Sports Promotion Fund were slow to make the money available to cover the costs of the trip. When the money was received, each athlete received it in their own time.

On the other hand, the SED interfered in the FMB's responsibilities by reducing the delegation from Mozambique to Rwanda from 26 to 22 people.
