The port of Nacala, located in Nampula province, expects to continue registering record levels, with a total of 3.5 million tons of miscellaneous cargo expected to be handled by December of this year.
According to the director of the port of Nacala, Nelmo Induna, the infrastructure is constantly being developed to meet the growing needs imposed by the international market, revealing that by July 2024, 1.8 million tons of cargo had already been handled.
"The deep-water infrastructure, which goes up to 14 meters, allowing the flow of products and boosting the economy of the Interland countries, is increasingly opening up to the world, as a result of its efficiency in handling cargo," he said.
Cited by Radio MozambiqueThe source said that by July this year, the infrastructure had already handled around 1.8 million tons, representing a growth of around 3% compared to the same period last year.
"Malawi and Zambia benefit most from the port of Nacala, placing Mozambique as a strategic provider of rail-port services," he added.
The port of Nacala, with the capacity to berth large ships of around 60,000 deadweight tons (DWT), has reduced the time spent at the quay and, consequently, the entire container handling process, due to the introduction of new and modern equipment.
