The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) and the Provincial Executive Council (CEP) signed a contract this Tuesday (18) in the city of Matola for the construction of a parking lot for trucks and commerce, valued at three million dollars.
The 20-hectare site, along National Road No. 4, in the Pessene Administrative Post, Moamba district, has been granted by the government, and the development should improve traffic flow on the N4.
Trucks should be banned from driving between 6am and 8am, and 4pm and 6pm, according to a report by the MPDC and the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
For the Governor of Maputo province, Júlio Parruque, the contract marks the operationalization of common interests in traffic control and management for the ports of Maputo and Matola.
For his part, the Executive Director of MPDC, Osório Lucas, said that the investment amount is earmarked for the first phase of the project and that the park will initially have the capacity to accommodate between 300 and 400 trucks.
I went on to say that the plan is for vehicles and motorists to have a specific place to wait and rest so that they can then travel along the N4 at times when there is less pressure on road traffic. In addition, there will be conditions for following some processes to enter Porto.
"Basically, this is an extension of the Port where we're going to build service infrastructures," he said, quoted by the News.
