Over the last 20 years, the Port of Maputo has invested around 700 million dollars in automating its operations, with a view to guaranteeing transparency and reliability in the services it provides to the country and the SADC region.
According to the Communication and Image Manager of the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), in addition to the investment made during the period in question, the volume of cargo handled rose from 5 million in 2003 to 26.7 million in 2022, which represents a growth of more than 500 percent.
Soraia Abdul was speaking on Monday on Rádio Moçambique's (RM) Café da Manhã program about the challenges and progress made at the Port of Maputo over the last 20 years.
According to the source, in the last two decades, the Port of Maputo has been a preferred location for countries in the SADC region.
The Communication and Image Manager of the Port of Maputo Development Company also spoke about the Master Plan underway at that entity.
Soraia Abdula stressed that the Port of Maputo expects to handle around 30 million tons of cargo this year. (RM)
