Polícia abre processo-crime contra Venâncio Mondlane e PODEMOS

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) has opened criminal proceedings against Venâncio Mondlane and PODEMOS, accused of inciting the violence that culminated in the looting and burning of the Chalaua police station in Nampula.

According to a report in the newspaper "O País", the spokesman for the General Command of the PRM, Orlando Mudumane, said on Monday (28) that the actions of Venâncio Mondlane and the party that supports his presidential candidacy have, in a way, "changed the tranquillity in the country".

"Allied to this, the PRM General Command is demanding that the presidential candidate and his party return the AK-47 type weapon, allegedly snatched from the hands of agents in the Chualalaa district on Sunday afternoon," reads the same publication.

During the raid, one officer lost his life and 21 officers were injured.

The PRM General Command says it is concerned about the wave of harassment against police officers by the community.
