The economies of the euro zone and the European Union (EU) grew 3.7% and 3.9% in the third quarter, respectively, compared to the same period in 2020, notes the Lusa agency citing Eurostat.
Compared to the second quarter of the year, between July and September the gross domestic product (GDP) of the euro zone grew by 2.2% and that of the EU by 2.1%.
According to the source we have been quoting, year-on-year growth slowed in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2020, when eurozone GDP grew by 14.2% and EU GDP by 13.7%.
In the quarter-on-quarter change, GDP accelerated slightly, as it rose by 2.1% in the euro countries and 2.0% in the 27 member states as a whole in the second quarter of the year.
As for the employment rate, in the euro zone it increased by 2.01 Q2T year-on-year and 0.91 Q2T quarter-on-quarter.
In the EU, the number of people in employment grew by 2.1% compared to the third quarter of 2020 and 0.9% compared to the April-June period.
