Palma and Mocímboa will have power again by the end of the month

By the end of this month, the electric power supply will be re-established in the districts of Mocímboa da Praia and Palma, in Cabo Delgado, interrupted following the terrorist attacks.

The assurance was given, on Thursday, by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Max Tonela, moments after he visited the completely destroyed Awasse electricity substation.

He explained that work is currently underway to overhaul the power transmission lines to ensure a safe replacement.

Max Tonela said that what is being done is emergency work, to respond to the demand for electricity in areas where the populations, who had been displaced, have returned or are tending to return.

In parallel, according to the minister of mineral resources and energy, four generator sets will be received this week, which will be allocated to the districts of Mocímboa da Praia, Palma and other locations to be determined by the local authorities.

The emergency work, according to the holder of the mineral resources and energy portfolio, is being supported by government and partner funds, valued at $11 million.

Max Tonela announced that an additional 10 million will be required for the reconstruction, in a definitive way, of the Awasse electric substation, which guarantees the supply of energy to the districts of Muidumbe, Palma, Mocímboa da Praia, Nangade and Mueda, the latter already lit since last week.
