Netherlands allocates 30 M€ to strengthen food systems in the Beira corridor

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is funding 30 million euros to implement a program aimed at strengthening food systems and food and nutrition security in the Beira corridor.

The initiative, which is being implemented in twelve districts in the provinces of Manica and Sofala, aims to improve the diet of 227,000 people.

The program called Manguana, which means "tomorrow", was officially launched this Tuesday (03) in the district of Vanduzi, in the province of Manica.

The Manguana programme, run by a consortium of four organizations, will also help 45,000 small farmers to increase their incomes.

On the occasion, the director of the Manguana program, Augusto Jaime, quoted by Radio MozambiqueHe said that the initiative provides funding for business plans for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

For her part, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Mozambique, Elsbeth Akkerman, explained that "by financing the Manguana program, the expectation is to reduce the malnutrition rate, which can seriously compromise the country's development".

The four-year program implemented in the provinces of Manica and Sofala is based on three pillars: support for small farmers, promoting the development of the private sector and improving the business environment.
