The Mozambican Bar Association (OAM) has shown its willingness to mediate in the conflict of interest between the Mozambican Medical Association (AMM) and the government.
"We have no doubt that, more than ever, the parties need mediation that is equal to the current circumstances in order to overcome many of the notorious differences, and it is certain that there is no imposing medication with serious side effects, but rather, as the science of persuasion that it is, with approach techniques that lead the parties to a successful conclusion. Through its many members who specialize in mediation techniques, the OAM has been available from the outset to collaborate in this chapter, without any preconditions, with a view to bringing about social peace. It's time for moral reflection," say the lawyers.

In a statement, the lawyers took part in the problem, citing the legitimacy of the strike and repudiating the threats of repression, "which, as well as being illegal, can only lead to wear and tear and more conflict".
"The right to strike is constitutionally and legally established, forming part of the fundamental core of the so-called rights of trade union association, expressly enshrined in the Constitution, and is therefore an achievement of the democratic rule of law, the maximum expression of freedom, which cannot in any way be curtailed, limited or repressed, because it is an object of law," the document reads.
In this sense, the OAM says that the government's possible position of repression, namely salary deductions, making permanent appointments unfeasible and expulsions, is illegal and the least appropriate way to resolve the dispute.

One of the ways to resolve the conflict, according to the lawyers, is to recognize that article 23 of Law no. 5/2022, of February 14, approving the Single Salary Table, legitimizes the demands of the medical profession, overturning many of the benefits contained in the Doctors' Statute, by "[revoking] all legislation that contradicts the rules and criteria for setting the salary and supplements provided for in article 10 of this Law".
In addition, they warn that if the threats materialize, their position will always be in favor of the strike and keeping jobs.
