The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the French multinational Total Energy, Patrick Pouyanné, said in Maputo, that the return of operations of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, depends on the existence of sustainable security conditions.
The head of Total in Mozambique who was speaking at the end of a meeting with the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, said there is encouraging progress in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
"A lot of progress has been made, in terms of security. We can see that Mocímboa da Praia is safe, Palma is safe, however, there is still progress to be made, so that we have sustainable security," he told reporters.
"We want to see the populations returning to their villages; the village of Palma and the town of Mocímboa da Praia returning to normality, that is, to the normalization of social life. Sustainability is very important. It is part of security, because security is not only a military issue, it is also a matter of working with the populations," said Pouyanné.
For his part, President Nyusi stressed the importance of the meeting held with the executive of the French multinational for the alignment between the parties, the state of play of the LNG project.
"One of the things we are going to do, quickly, together, is to bring life back to normal. When I was in Palma (last week), the population said that what they want most is to travel calmly to Pemba, Mocímboa, and other points in the province, and that is what we are doing now", he informed the press.
