The Director General of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), Adriano Nuvunga, accuses the government and the Frelimo party of trying to tarnish the image of the social intervention rapper, Edson "Azagaia" da Luz.
However, in the eighth grade Portuguese language textbook, which has been in force since 2020, there is a text that deals with an incident involving the Hip-Hop singer.
The "small text" testicle recounts the episode in which Azagaia was arrested by the police in 2011, after the police found a "derisory" amount of cannabis sativa (soruma) in the car he was traveling in with a friend and producer, Miguel Sherba.
In the teaching plan, the text on page 111 is intended to assess the presence of elements that make up a news text.
For the activist, the choice of that episode from Azagaia's life is an attack on human rights defenders, as he considers the singer to have been.
"It is therefore a text written with malicious intent, sponsored by the Frelimo regime, which teaches eighth grade children a derogatory view of human rights defenders. Instead of promoting values such as justice, dignity and solidarity, this material seeks to denigrate the image of those who dedicate themselves to defending the truth," reads one of the texts. text published today.
In this sense, Nuvunga believes that "this situation needs to be strongly condemned and taken to court, in order to restore the dignity and redeem the name of the musician, whose memory continues to be the target of attacks even after his death".
It's worth remembering that public television, which did everything it could to avoid putting any action by the critic of the system in the headlines, opened the afternoon news that day with a story about his arrest. Azagaia was briefly detained at the sixth PRM police station in Maputo city. His release was not featured. On the same channel, presenter Gabriel Júnior was forced to cancel an invitation he had extended to the rapper for an interview on the program Moçambique em Concerto. The meeting took place years later on TV Sucesso. The same television only touched on the rapper's name again when he lost his life.
About the arrest episodeinstead of giving interviews, the rapper chose to release the song entitled Confession.
As an artist, Azagaia has released two albums, "Babalaze" and "Kubaliwa". He also released two singles on record, "Filhos da Luta" and "Só Dever". He died of illness on March 9, 2023.
