Postponed again: Mozambique-Malawi power line not due to be delivered until October

The deadline for the construction of the 218 kilometers of electricity transmission line linking Mozambique and Malawi has been postponed once again. And this time, after initially being postponed until March of this year, the contractor carrying out the work has announced that it will not be completed until next October.

Thus, a report published by Radio MozambiqueThe Malawian Health, Safety and Environment Manager, Pattison Muchochoma, said that more than 80% of the work has already been carried out, and that the substation being built in Matambo, Changara district in Tete province, is currently in its final phase.

According to the source, once the metal structure has been completed, the electrical installation will be carried out, which is the final stage of the project, and then the cables will be laid to connect Mozambique to Malawi.

"At the moment, the transformers and towers that will receive the cables have already been assembled, and the only thing missing is the electrical distribution control center," said the manager.

Budgeted at 154 million dollars under the financing of the World, German and European Banks, the project will add 120 mega watts to Malawi's national electricity grid.
