Vodafone M-Pesa and Sociedade Algodoeira do Niassa, a company of the João Ferreira dos Santos group (JFS) signed an agreement last Thursday (13) aimed at providing digital financial solutions to facilitate the business of farmers and rural communities..
During the first year, the new partnership will benefit a total of 500 farmers who, according to the terms announced after the agreement was signed, will now receive payments via the M-Pesa mobile wallet, in an initiative that will "promote greater security, efficiency and transparency in transactions".
"Our commitment is that, within five years, all JFS producers will be fully integrated into this digital model," said Sérgio Gomes, executive director of Vodafone M-Pesa, quoted by Terra Magazine.
"In addition, we want to create opportunities for savings by enabling at least 20% of the beneficiaries of this partnership to save their income directly in their M-Pesa accounts, providing greater financial security and encouraging a culture of long-term planning," he added.
For his part, the Director of JFS, António Manuel Correia, highlighted the importance of the new partnership in contributing to the sustainable development of rural communities, which is one of the group's main commitments.
"Through this partnership, farmers will have access to essential financial services that will enable them to better plan their harvests, save for the future and invest in the growth of their businesses," said the JFS leader.
