Last week (November 2) streaming giant Netflix launched "Netflix Games," a new gaming platform available worldwide, but for now on mobile devices running the Android operating system, and the version for Apple devices, with iOs system, will be out soon.
Netflix's vice president of game development, Mike Verdu, said that as with the company's other services, in gaming it aims to offer options for all types of gamers, beginners and veterans alike.
To access the games one must be a subscriber to Netflix's streaming services. Through the smartphone, users will have a tab within the Netflix app to download the games. On tablets just access the "Categories" menu and there will be the games. Netflix Games is not a separate app, but the games can already be downloaded directly from Google Play.
This is Netflix's first step into the Gamer world, and for now it offers five games, namely: Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop).
And since they are available worldwide, Netflix has taken care to standardize them according to the9) language(s) of each country.
"We want to start building a library of games that provides something for everyone. We are at the beginning of creating a great gaming experience, and we are excited to take you on this journey with us," reads an official post on Netflix's website.
Starting next year, the movement is expected to intensify. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix's vice president of content for Asia, Minyoung Kim, revealed that Netflix is studying "different areas of games, consumer products and others" to increase audience affinity with the platform's content. Among the projects, an official adaptation of "Round 6" for the video game world is under consideration.
