Maradona's death: Court to try medical team

On the day when all of Argentina commemorated the 36th anniversary of Diego Maradona's famous exhibition against England in the 1986 World Cup, judge Orlando Díaz, of the San Isidro Court, decided that the medical team accompanying the former player will be tried for simple homicide, with possible intent.

This crime carries a penalty of between 8 and 25 years in prison. Maradona, it should be remembered, died on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, after suffering a cardiac arrest at his villa in Tigre, in the province of Buenos Aires.

Leopoldo Luque (neurosurgeon), Agustina Cosachov (psychiatrist), Carlos Ángel "Charly" Díaz (psychologist), Nancy Edith Forlini (physician), Pedro Pablo Di Spagna (physician), Dahiana Gisela Madrid (nurse), and Ricardo Omar Almirón (nurse) are the health professionals concerned.

The trial is not expected to begin until late next year or early 2024.
