Mozambique will start exporting lychee, a variety of high commercial value, of Chinese origin, whose techniques for its materialization in the country are implanted in the province of Manica, central zone of the country.
The information was advanced by Anselmo Mareque, representative of Westfalia Fruta Moçambique, a Manica-based fruit growing firm, at a ceremony to launch the Catalytic Fund for Innovation and Demostration.
Anselmo Mareque, said that Mozambique has agro-ecological conditions to introduce the seedless lychee species in districts that enjoy microclimates, such as Macossa, in Manica province.
Cited by Radio Mozambique, he also said that another strategy for the country to establish itself in the European market, and in other parts of the globe, is the anticipation of fruit production, in relation to its main competitor on that continent, Madagascar.
According to him, exports should begin in November, before production starts in Madagascar in December.
Mareque added that actions are currently underway to increase the production of this fruit from the current one hundred and fifty to six hundred tons of lychee per year.
