Mozambique to admit new airlines

The Mozambican government is evaluating a proposal for the admission of new foreign airlines that intend to operate in the national airspace, according to the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane.

This plan was already underway, but was suspended due to the covid-19 pandemic, Maleiane said in a meeting he held with businessmen from Nacala, as part of a working visit to Nampula province.

"Even domestic flights had difficulties," he added.

The authorities are convinced that there will be an improvement in the business environment, given the country's openness to the reduction of cases of the new coronavirus, which is already launching new prospects for the business market.

The Prime Minister pronounced himself in these terms in response to the concern of businessmen regarding the low flow of national and international flights at Nacala airport.

The Prime Minister said that there are favorable conditions for the infrastructure to be put to best use, by exploiting the adjacent regions for the construction of buildings for the provision of restaurants, transportation, hotel services, and other components, aiming to make local development more flexible.

This is a strategy aimed at attracting new investments and making room for the competitiveness of companies, in addition to employment opportunities.

"Nacala International Airport could be better utilized. It is located in the Special Economic Zone, where several investment benefits have been granted, with emphasis on the exemption of tax and customs duties", he stated. Adriano Maleiane.
