The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2021 published by the non-governmental organization Transparency International revealed that corruption continues to lead the lines of development thinking in Mozambican institutions.

The beginning of the hidden debt trial process and the efforts to fight corruption have contributed to Mozambique's positive CPI rating, but not enough to take the country off the list of the most corrupt countries in the world today.

According to the evaluation, cited by the Mozambican media, in 2021 the country recorded 26 points, having thus risen only one point, compared to the previous year, when it slipped and stood at 25 points, where the maximum, which reveals a positive assessment, is 100 points.

The evaluation list includes 180 countries and Mozambique is in 147th place.

In these kinds of assessments, at the international level, Mozambique has moved towards the worst places since the unleashing of the hidden debts. In 2017 the country recorded the worst balance by dropping 30 places in the CPI, and never again rose to levels above 50. The public sector is the heart of corruption in the country, according to assessments by expert institutions with sufficient credibility in this matter.

The least corrupt country in the world is Denmark and the most corrupt is South Sudan.
