Mozambique has serious financial inclusion problems, says Central Bank governor

Moçambique tem problemas sérios de inclusão financeira, diz governador do Banco Central

The Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Rogério Zandamela, said today in Maputo that financial inclusion is still a problem, as the majority of the population still does not have access to financial services.

"The country has a serious problem with financial inclusion. There can be no inclusive, balanced, economic and social development without dealing with issues of financial inclusion. It's not enough to have economic growth, we need social justice, because without this, growth quickly becomes clogged with problems," he said.

He was speaking at the launch of the fifth edition of the Regulatory SandBox, in which 15 fintechs will participate.

"We hope that new financial providers will emerge from this edition and that together we can contribute to leveraging financial inclusion," he said.

The same occasion saw the certification of five technological innovation companies in financial markets that took part in the fourth edition of the Regulatory SandBox for financial inclusion.

"The creation of conditions that favor technological innovation must not neglect the challenges linked to risk mitigation, financial stability, consumer protection and market conduct," he pointed out. (Sources: STV and RM)
