Last year, the country received more than 400 non-conformity reports regarding the inspection of products to be exported to Mozambique, carried out in the countries of origin to check the required quality standards.
The information was provided by the director of the Testing and Inspection Division at the National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ), Guilhermina Nhampulo, who, in partnership with Intertek, implements the Conformity Assessment Programme (PAC).
These cases are the first signals issued as part of the implementation of the CAP, the verification of which in the countries of origin is the responsibility of Intertek, a global company specializing in this service.
According to Guilhermina Nhampulo, quoted by the NewsThe notifications cover various product groups, in particular foodstuffs, electrical and electronic devices, automotive articles and construction materials.
She gave as an example the assessment of at least 547 used vehicles, of which more than 16% were rejected for not meeting the minimum standards required in terms of quality.
In addition, the source explained that at this stage of the CAP's implementation, South Africa, Japan and China are the countries of greatest attention, due to the high volume of exports to Mozambique of products on the mandatory control list.
"INNOQ reiterates its call for economic agents and individuals interested in importing products to observe this procedure in the countries of origin, thus ensuring that only goods that conform to national quality standards enter the Mozambican market," the newspaper reported.
However, despite the progress made, there are still a considerable number of imported products that are not certified. According to the director of the Testing and Inspection Division at INNOQ, this situation may be linked to uncertainty about their conformity. However, INNOQ does not yet impose fines or seizures, justifying this with the need to continue to disseminate the standards more widely in order to consolidate them among entrepreneurs.
