Mozambique receives 720,000 doses of covid-19 vaccine

Mozambique received on Tuesday 720 thousand doses of the Covishield vaccine against the new coronavirus. These are doses donated under the Covax mechanism promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), the new batch received this Tuesday is part of a total of 17.8 million doses expected in the country under the Covax initiative.

The Ministry of Health (MISAU) also received 14,245 N95 masks and 11,400 gloves donated by the public company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), in addition to another 20,000 reusable masks delivered by Good Neighbors, an international non-governmental organization founded in South Korea.

According to the latest data advanced by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, 7.8 million people have been immunized with at least one dose of the vaccine against the new coronavirus in the country, of which 5.4% are fully vaccinated.

However, on Monday, Filipe Nyusi warned about the worrying evolution of the weekly positivity rate in the country, which has risen from 0.4% to 24.5% in the last four weeks and noted that depending on the evolution of the data "more drastic measures" may be taken.
