Mozambique reopens 95% companies during the pandemic

In Mozambique, the covid-19 pandemic has led some 2,250 firms to close in 2020. Now, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Margarida Talapa, has reported that 95% of those firms have already resumed work.

"We are in a good phase, companies in almost all industries have reopened. But we have a 5% challenge from the companies that have not yet resumed, and those companies have been keeping us up to date daily on the steps to get their work started," he added.

Also according to the governor, the provinces of Tete and Cabo Delgado have the largest number of companies that remain without functioning.

"The province that concerns us at the moment is Cabo Delgado and we know that, with the terrorist situation in that part of the country, many companies, which are already going through difficult times because of the pandemic, have been forced to close down because of the attacks and their activities are still paralyzed," he explained.

With the reopening of the companies, about 52,000 workers have returned to their jobs. Approximately 4,000 are part of the companies that have not yet reopened and are therefore "at home".
