Mozambique could be banned from world skating championships "for senseless things"

Moçambique pode ser banido de campeonatos mundiais de patinagem “por coisas sem sentido”

The Mozambican Skating Federation (FMP) has revealed that the country could be suspended from international competitions in the sport for four years if it doesn't take part in the African Roller Hockey Championships, between August 21 and 26 this year, in Cairo, Egypt.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (16), to which MZNews had access, the FMP indicates that to take part in the competition it needs 5,075,000 meticais and 12,281 euros for the purchase of field hockey equipment.

"The FMP has not yet met the minimum conditions necessary for Mozambique to take part in the second edition of the African championship. The FMP has signed up two national teams for WorldSkate Africa in the senior and U19 age groups," it reads.

The FMP says that it has been participating in sporting events by providing financial sponsorship from its partners and the Sports Promotion Fund (FPD), which has yet to express its support less than a week before the start of the championship.

The sanctions for the country will stem not only from its failure to show up for the African championship, but also because it is the runner-up in the WorldSkate Africa Roller Hockey Championship, as a result of its participation in the sport's 1st African Tournament in 2019 in Angola, and because it chairs the WorldSkate Africa Roller Hockey Committee.

"It doesn't make sense to resign as a result of not taking part in the championship to be held in Cairo," concludes the FMP.
