Mozambique is in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, just to note

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, sealed today in Doha, capital of Qatar, the adhesion to the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries, marking a significant pact in the projection of Mozambique to become one of the largest producers and exporters of gas.

"From being a small exporter to the Southern region and Africa, we will become part of the family of world natural gas exporters, together with the nations represented here," said Nyusi, who was speaking among heads of state and government, in a session that closes the VI meeting of the forum, taking place in Doha since Sunday.

On Monday, the 11 member countries approved Mozambique's entry into the organization as an observer, a "membership that as of today is materialized," Nyusi stressed.

The head of state emphasized that a new page for Mozambique will be opened with the entry into operation, this year, of the gas exploration and liquefaction platform off the coast of Cabo Delgado.

All the gas will be exported, sold to the oil company BP, and all the wealth generated should be "a factor of peace, stability, security, and promotion of development," he added.

The head of state again pointed to liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the transition energy, i.e. the least polluting of the fossil energies, and from the forum he expects information and experience to structure the LNG projects "for the benefit of the people, including future generations."

Current forum observers include Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Norway, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Forum of Gas Exporting Countries consists of 11 member countries: Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.

According to the organization, member states account for 44% of global gas production and 67% of world gas reserves.

Similarly, they account for 64% of gas transmission lines and 66% of LNG trade worldwide.
