Mozambique among the largest exporters of natural gas in the world. Just for the future

Mozambique's high potential in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) could make it the world's fifth largest exporter by mid-century, according to Global Gas Outlook 2050 of the GECF. And, with this in mind, as well as the start of LNG production in the middle of this year, the Executive intends to integrate the country into the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

GECF is a global platform of leading natural gas exporting countries, currently comprising 19 member countries, headquartered in Doha, Qatar.

One of the government's strategies has been to participate in the high-level GECF meetings to stimulate its gas sector.

Last week Mozambique's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Max Tonela, and GECF Secretary-General Mohamed Hamel participated in the same virtual meeting.

At the meeting, the Secretary-General referred to the magnitude of the national natural gas and its potential for Mozambique's economic future, and assured the GECF of his support.

"We would be honored and delighted to see Mozambique join the Forum as it will become an LNG exporter by the end of this year," Hamel said.

In turn, the Mozambican minister recalled that "Mozambique's eagerness in the GECF was again in evidence when Hamel paid a courtesy visit to the newly created Embassy of Mozambique in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday (26). Hamel was received by Isac Mamudo Massamby, Ambassador," reads the statement.

Mozambique intends to send a high-level delegation to attend the 6th GECF Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in February 2022 in Doha.

The GECF includes Qatar, Algeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, and Nigeria, among others.
