On Tuesday, the Mozambican government, through the Council of Ministers, approved the Strategy for Combating the Financing of Terrorism 2024-2029, an instrument that will facilitate the implementation of the recommendations of the national assessment of the risks of financing this activity.
It is a strategy that will not only serve as a reference point for public-private sector players, including civil society actors, but will also make national coordination and international cooperation actions effective.
Speaking after the end of the 44th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, the spokesman for that body, Filimão Suaze, said that the "strategy also aims to promote a common vision on the main objectives in the sectors identified as being at high risk of terrorism".
Suaze, who is also Deputy Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, cited the sectors of mineral resources, finance, including civil society organizations that carry out some activity related to mineral resources, and finance as examples.
At the same session, the Council of Ministers created the Executive Committee for the Coordination of Policies to Prevent and Combat Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The Committee's mission, according to Suaze, is to monitor and coordinate the identification, assessment and response to the risks of money laundering, terrorist financing and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to which Mozambique is exposed.
