Mozambican Luxury Recycle named "Best Designer of the Year" in Uganda

Moçambicano Luxury Recycle nomeado “Melhor Estilista do Ano” no Uganda

Once again, Mozambican designer Luxury Recycle has been nominated for the Fashion Stylist of the Year Africa category in a fashion competition in Uganda. The winners will be announced tomorrow in Kampala during the awards gala.

Called the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFA), it is one of the biggest fashion events in Africa with categories divided into five segments: Honorary Awards; Designer Awards; Fashion Awards; Fashion Personalities and Music in Fashion.

For Luxury Recycle, this nomination means that Mozambique is finally getting global visibility through the fashion of its creation, because, as it justifies, it's not every day that Mozambican artists appear on the list of an event of this magnitude, which brings together the greatest African creatives and those from other geographies.

"I believe that this nomination contributes to putting Mozambique on the cultural map at a global level and, through me, there is a door that opens so that other artists who dedicate themselves to fashion and the arts in general can gain notoriety," says Recycle.

There is great expectation on the part of the artist, however, he points out that even if he doesn't return with the prize, the fact that he is part of a shortlist of African artists is already a great victory for Mozambique.

In addition to Luxury Recycle, the list includes African designers Chuck Mbevo (Angola), Tiannahs Place (Nigeria), Yartel (Ghana) and T. Dosumu (Nigeria).
The Mozambican artist recognizes the creative potential of his colleagues, as they have all dressed major artists, participated in advertisements and major events and have several projects with good engagement. "It's going to be very close, because the competitors are very strong."

If Recycle manages to win this event, it will be the third time it has won the award, since last year (2021) it won Best Designer of the Year in Accra, Ghana and this year (2022) it won Best Fashion Icon of the Year, also in Ghana, as well as being included in a list of the best 30 artists of the new generation with an impact on the world, an initiative by Jhonnie Walker and Trace Toca.

At the moment, Recycle is working on several projects. One of them is a clothing collection that he is preparing for an event to be held in December in Maputo and several collaborations on the way.
