The Minister of National Defense, Cristóvão Chume, led the official closing ceremony of the Southern African Development Community Military Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) on Thursday (04).

The event, to be held at Pemba Airport in Cabo Delgado, will be attended by members of the SADC Executive Secretariat, General and Senior Officers from SAMIM and the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces.

The withdrawal of military forces from SADC was previously announced last March by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Verónica Macamo explained that SAMIM's withdrawal is due to the lack of funds to maintain these forces, which have joined forces with Mozambique and Rwanda to fight terrorism in Cabo Delgado province.
